Eating Within One hour of Waking Up Speeds Fat Loss
We’ve all heard "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Here is why. From the time your feet hit the ground in the morning, the body is calling for fuel to get your metabolic engine going. If you do not respond with food, your fat burning will be sluggish throughout the day, regardless of how few calories you consume.
Stoke your Fire! Think of your metabolism like a fire. After a fire has burned down over the night you need to give it fuel to get into full burning mode. Once you get that fire burning brightly, all you need to keep it at maximal efficiency is to throw on a log every few hours. It’s the same with your metabolic fire. From the last food you ate the night before until you fuel your body the next day you are in fasting mode and low metabolic output.
If the brain perceives you are not feeding your body, it signals the body to hold onto fat for preservation. Any resulting weight loss will primarily be from stored glucose or muscle mass.
What to Eat for Optimal Fat Burning:
If you are in Phase 1 of the Ideal Protein you’ll begin with an Ideal Protein food of your choice
If in weight maintenance, have your own protein, plus a carb, and a fat. Example: egg, low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese, and fresh fruit
Or keep it simple with optimal nutrition: have an Ideal Protein food even throughout maintenance
How Much Fuel Do You Need? Not much.
A light breakfast effectively turns on your metabolic fire and signals the body that fat-burning is good-to-go
Most important in the morning is the timing rather than the amount.
Then What?
For the rest of the day, keep your metabolic fire in optimal fat burning by eating a small snack or meal every 3-4 hours
If you go longer than four hours without eating, your metabolic fire will start to lose fat-burning momentum
