Perky. Passionate. Powerful. How much do these words describe you?
Or do you feel easily fatigued and “blah”?
The natural tendency when we are tired is to do less, but this may only contribute to further physical decline, weight gain, premature aging, and the risk of increased mortality. Especially if you are in your 50’s or older, a fatigue-related slowdown is not healthy.
Here are five easy to-do’s for more energy and less fatigue:
Drink water. Even mild dehydration causes fatigue and dumps our alertness. Older adults especially can get out of the habit of hydrating. Aim for 2 liters a day.
Step outside. Connecting with nature, breathing fresh air, and moving our bodies is an immediate restorative.
Take a walk. Aim for a daily walk and build this energy restoring habit. 30-60 minutes is great, but even a 10 minute walk at an energetic pace will fight fatigue.
Try cold water. Turn the shower to cool for a fatigue-busting blast; we can feel more active, alert, attentive and inspired after a bracing immersion.
Eat with frequency. Aim to eat something (non-carbohydrate) between meals so that you do not go more than four hours without fuel for your body. This will increase metabolism giving you more energy and less fat gain.
If you do more rather than less, in ways appropriate to your health, you can add real quality to your life. What are your tips to fight fatigue and low energy? Share by sending me an email or text at 503-701-9988.
