OTC Protein Powders with Toxic Lead?
Ideal Protein Foods Are the Safest Choice for Added Protein.
Not all protein powders are equally safe or nutritious
You may recall that Ideal Protein foods are the only FDA-certified protein or diet product sold in North America approved as “food.” Unlike food products, the FDA does not regulate OTC (over-the-counter) protein powders or products, which are sold as “supplements.”
Recent studies have shown that more than two-thirds of the 23 OTC protein powders tested by Consumer Reports contained more lead in a single serving than is considered a safe daily level. This lead presence has to do with the location and soil from where the ingredients are sourced. And because OTC products are not regulated, the ingredients’ soil origin (not place of manufacture) is often hidden. Note: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states there is no known safe level of exposure to lead.
Here are facts about the quality and safety of Ideal Protein foods:
Ingredients are mostly sourced from Europe and are (European) non-GMO certified.
Most ingredients are organic
Ideal Protein foods are manufactured in a food-safe lab in Canada, and before being sold in the U.S. are under strict US FDA scrutiny for purity of ingredients, including no measurable lead.

“Consumers are left at the mercy of the supplement manufacturer. Each supplement manufacturer can decide for themselves whether or not they wish to test for lead. This leads consumers to be in the dark about how much lead they are consuming.”
